With sweeping vistas and gem-coloured waters, the sealed Glenorchy to Queenstown Rd is wonderfully scenic. Its constant hills are a killer for cyclists. Pick up the Queenstown to Glenorchy Road leaflet from the Queenstown i-SITE for points of interest along the way.

Backpacker Express at the Info & Track Centre (03-442 9708; www.infotrack.co.nz; 37 Shotover St) provides transport to Glenorchy from Queenstown (adult/child $30/25), leaving Queenstown at 8am and returning from Glenorchy at 3pm. An overnight option (adult/child $25/20) which leaves Queenstown at 12.30am and returns from Glenorchy at 10.30am is also available.
