After flying into Christchurch earlier in the morning, we began our hunt for somewhere to eat. The recommendation of a local petrol station attendant; ‘Sticky Fingers’ split the group into two parts. Those who didn’t want to eat with a “thousand screaming kids”, and those who were too hungry to care.

Group one couldn’t have been more wrong. Upon arrival what we imagined to be a playground was in fact a small park directly out the front.  This is certainly no kids’ eatery I thought noting the extensive bar housing the best of local and international wines. In fact there was not a child to be seen, mainly businessman and woman taking advantage of the gorgeous spring day by sitting under the expansive umbrellas outside.  
After joining the aforementioned people, we were served by a young waitress who was extremely helpful in giving not only giving directions to our hotel, but information on where the best night clubs were located in town (She was right too). 

I eventually settled on the ‘Pancetta Con Fungi’; a wood-fired pizza dressed with pancetta, portobello mushroom, and arugula. I soon came to the conclusion that this was not pizza; this was so much more.  The word ‘pizza’ seems more suited to something out of a fast food joint, not this culinary masterpiece. 

I was not alone in my opinion about the feast that had been prepared for us. Accompanied by a glass of Waipara Hills Sav. Blanc, it was easy to see why this place is so popular among the locals. The peace and tranquillity of the adjacent park seems to wash all over.  One thing I recommend you try is “Nothing but Candlelight”.  This is a unique dining experience in which they encourage you to ‘experience the ambience of candlelight dining’.  Romantic?  Very. 

Well one thing’s sorted. Next time I venture all the way down to Christchurch I will be definitely popping in to Sticky Fingers for a visit. Here’s hoping they just change that name.
