Planning a (quite last minute) 2 month trip to NZ for July/ August and was after some tips/ pointers.
I have some friends living in Queenstown so looking to spend a good 2/3 weeks here but want to fly to N. Island and travel south, seeing as much as possible on the way.
I will be looking to hire a vehicle for a few weeks and cut down on accommodation costs where possible...
Has anyone who has done a similar solo trip on a budget have any suggestions of:
- good car/ van rentals

I am travelling to New Zealand from UK on a working holiday visa in October. At the moment I'm looking into travel insurance but not sure which company to go with. I would want the possibility of extension whilst over there (in case I do decide to extend my visa after a year), and I also have a pre-existing medical condition which I need cover for too.
I've tried True Traveller but they don't offer pre-existing med cover. I have also got a quote from STA but have just read some of their reviews…
Hi all, I am working on a plan to travel to New Zealand for a month and a half. This is the second half of my three months of travel. I plan to arrive the middle of October and stay till the end of November. I am looking for any recommendations on how to travel through the country. I plan to start in Christchurch and head south for a bit then make my way up to the north as well. If anyone has a suggestion on the order of places I should see that would be greatly helpful.
My husband and I are planning to travel to New Zealand this July for another (our 2nd) round of IVF. Sounds crazy, but with the exchange rate, the cost in NZ is about 1/3 of what it would cost us to do it here. We've had doctor consults (via Skype) in both Christchurch and Wellington and now need to decide which city we want to seek treatment in. We liked both the doctors we spoke with, and would be happy working with either of them. So, now it seems to be more about the location.
My friends and I are going to Auckland and we plan to allot one day to visit the Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton. We want to go there on our own but we couldn't find so much information on passenger buses from Auckland to Waitomo to Matamata. We were thinking of going to Rotorua as well but if there are limited trips, and if time won't allow it, we will forego this one. I hope to ask for leads or tips regarding public transportation from Auckland to Matamata to Waitomo to Auckland.
I am going to apply for a Working Holiday Visa for New Zealand for later this year (I am from the UK). I know that if you have been to low risk TB countries they will require a chest scan.
I have not been to any of these countries, but I want to stop off in Hong Kong and possibly Thailand on the way there (as most flights have layovers in Asia anyway). Will I require a chest scan then for my WHV, and if so, how would I go about getting one, as I'm just flying onward?
I have something of a problem on my hands here; I´m a uk citizen, but for the past 3 years I have been living in Spain for 9 months working as a teacher and then returning to the UK during the summer for 3 months. The embassy website states that anyone who has been áway´from the country for more than two years no longer meets the criteria of being ordinarily resident, but my question is, if I have been coming back for three months of the year, does that discount me? And if I gave an address in…
Hi all, home of you might recognise my name from some time ago.
I'm trying to plan a trip re-visiting around a few key places in the S. Island, and have hit an impasse at one point on the return leg.
We're on public transport (mostly Intercity/Newmans, but sometimes trains, ferries, Atomic and Nakedbus).
Aiming to get from Tekapo to Picton in one day, planning to stay the night in Picton....but so far it seems that the earliest transport out of Tekapo is late lunch time, arriving ChCh at…
