New Zealand in July? Is that crazy?

Hi there! Am contemplating a 3 week trip to NZ in July since that is when school is out here in CA. Was also thinking about renting a camper van to do the 3 week trek, but have started to have doubts after reading about the winter weather. Is it realistic to rent and drive around this time of the year? Am concerned about the amount of daylight, whether things will be completely covered in snow, etc. I have heard amazing things about New Zealand and all of its beauty...wouldn't want to miss out…

Kiwi Experience v. Stray Hop On - Hop Off Bus Tours

Hi All,

Been doing some research into the pros and cons of each company but would appreciate any responses on here too, since people have been so helpful in the past.

I am currently in Auckland and cannot wait to get out of the city. Here alone and heard the bus tours are a good way of meeting new people / making friends. I'm 25, enjoy a night out like the next person but not EVERY night, love seeing the sights and exploring nature / doing activities. I get the impression KE is more of a…

Queenstown Nov18th

Hello!
I'm headed to Queenstown on Nov 18th. I'm looking to see if anyone will be in the area and wants to meet up or explore with me. I'm going to NZ on the working holiday and so I'll be there all year! If someone has a spot in their car or wants a friend to explore with, let me know.

"Need to know" that's not in guidebooks

My bf and I will be traveling to New Zealand next week. I have read guidebooks, searched websites, etc. What, if anything do we need to know about New Zealand as far as culture, safety, etc. that's not addressed in guidebooks or on websites?

Thanks.

Inter Islander Ferry seasonal?

I'm planning a big trip around New Zealand next July and am hoping to catch the Inter Islander Ferry at least once.

The website is only allowing me to book as far ahead as April at the moment, is this because the ferry only goes at certain times of the year?

If this is the case, what would be the best option to take in terms of travelling between the two islands?

Thanks in advance.

Wildlife Conservation Opportunities/Travel

Hi!

I'm a 25 year old wildlife biologist from Canada, wanting to travel to New Zealand this November until about February/March starting off working or volunteering in a wildlife conservation setting. I have worked for government, academia, and non-profit in Canada (mostly with bird research, wildlife rehabilitation, and consulting), and have a passion for species at risk.

Would anyone have any suggestions or personal experience with a volunteer organization (preferably that covers…
