Lonely Planet review for Café Melba
Old school through and through, this dim and moody café has businessfolk clustered at its teeny tables both inside and out on Vulcan Lane. At breakfast, there is Eggs Benedict done three ways: veg, regular and with salmon. Or dip your spoon in delectable stewed fruit or porridge. Later at lunch, the menu moves to bagels and curries.

Classy Cafe.
mikeyone recommends this,
I have been to Auckland a few times and no visit, however brief, is complete without bacon eggs benedict at Cafe Melba on Vulcan Street.
Just off the main street, Queen Street, Cafe Melba is a a little gem in a busy city.
Start the day with a large flat white, bacon eggs benedict and you are set for anything that this continually busy and often frustrating city can throw at you.
Here is my tip for any traveller - land, unpack, take $20 and walk over to Melba. Sit down, order and relax.
Classic, simple and delicious, who could ask for anything more?
