We are a couple from Northern California going on a trip around South Island from Sept - early Oct, primarily to see penguins. As time permits, we'd also love to see the beautiful scenery on some short hikes. We'll have 14 full days there. It's a bit difficult to figure out from guidebooks which penguin locations to prioritize. For example, should we try to go to Stewart Island and go on a bird watching tour there, or should we spend more time around Banks Peninsula (for the white-flippered…
I will be coming to live in NZ from the US next month on a one-year working holiday visa. I'm starting to think about what to pack and looking for some advice. Recently I saw on another forum that a woman had a hard time finding an affordable electric heating pad in NZ, which is random, but it made me wonder if there are any other things that are either difficult to find in NZ or so expensive that it would be worth bringing with me? For example, I have an old pair of Merrill hiking shoes…
Hi everyone, I'm trying to book a 1way flight to Christchurch. Unfortunately it's rather expensive.
Chance upon the following flight:
Arrive at 1.30pm
Depart at 6am
The early departure means that it is rather not worth it to book a hotel, and we will have no transportation as we will be returning our campervan the day before departure.
Any suggestion on what to do if you are having a early hour outbound flight?
Thanks in advance.
we plan to be in New Zealand for 2 weeks and rent a car , we are having difficulty with flight duration and basic logistics
We are flying in and out of New York, we know the airline prices are high , dont want a 40 hour duration
any suggestions on how to structure our trip, meaning do we fly into Auckland , drive to south island , fly from Christ Church back to Auckland , go through Wellington ?
“Go Rental” car hire in New Zealand enjoyed a good online reputation a few years ago when I chose a car rental company. My first experience with them was very good. They patiently answer my questions and help solving problems as that was my first time in NZ.
But this time, the customer service standard dropped significantly both at Christchurch and Auckland. We had set up a pick up time at hotel, but unexpectantly, after 15 min wait on the road, they didn't show nor call me to advise. I called…
I intend a train ride on the "Northern Explorer" vom Auckland to Wellington and have a stopover of 2 days in the Tongariro National Park. How can I find a car with a driver to be picked up at the train station and be dropped there after touring around in this region?
does anyone have experience of getting a replacement UK passport when travelling overseas?
I lost my passport in Peru and have been issued with an emergency travel document/passport which covers transit to the UK via 5 countries. This is great of course, but I have a rtw ticket with more than 5 countries to visit. This means I need to apply for a full British passport while out of the U.K.
Has anyone requested to have their replacement passport delivered to the British Consulate in Auckland or…
Rethinking our original itinerary which had us flying from Rotaru to Christchurch and instead driving from Rotaru to Wellington and taking the ferry to Picton. Looking at our itineraries which do you think is the better choice? Maybe you have another suggestion or two. Many thanks for your help.
Day 1 - From Rotorua fly to Christchurch
Day 2 - Christchurch to Mt. Cook
Day 3 - Mt Cook (meeting a friend that night)
Day 4 - Mt Cook to Wanaka
Day 5 - Wanaka
Day 6 - Wanaka to Queenstown
Planning my first visit to the South Island next month. Typical North Islander - I've travelled the world and never been to NZ's South Island :(
I will have a campervan and will be on my own. Visiting mainly for the awesome scenery and view points (photography) I'm not a fan of crowds so have contemplated giving Milford a miss...though some would say that is ridiculous! Would love to go Skydiving somewhere! But probably not enough time.
Roys Peak is a must for me - hoping it won't be…
Hey guys, I'm really new to this forum and to traveling generally, so I'm kind of in the blue here regarding to what to expect and how to prepare.
So my friend and I are being released from military service by the end of the year and we thought of taking a 1-2 month trip to New Zealand.
We're in relatively good shape and thought we could go trekking for a few months.
Can anyone share their experiences or maybe give me a few welcome tips?
