Franz Josef Glacier Guides
Small group walks with experienced guides (boots, jackets and equipment supplied) are offered by Franz Josef Glacier Guides. Half-/full-day walks are $123/180 per adult (slightly cheaper for children). Full-day trips have around six hours on the ice, half-day trips up to two hours. Full-day ice-climbing trips ($256 including training) and three-hour helihikes ($399), which take your further up the glaciers to see more interesting formations and include two hours on the ice, are also available.

Has a Wilderness Cruise day trip (adult/child $235/65), beginning with a 45-minute boat ride across Lake Manapouri to West Arm power station, followed by a bus ride over Wilmot Pass to the sound, which you explore on a three-hour cruise. Pick up options from Te Anau or Queenstown are also available. To venture underground and admire a power station, take a separate Lake Manapouri cruise (adult/child $70/22, October to April).
