Getting there & around
It doesn't matter too much whether you head up or down the northeast coast, as you can take any of the roads across from the west coast at Bourail, Koné or Koumac. If you head across on one of the roads south of Bourail the stretch of road between Kouaoua, north of Canala, and Houaïlou winds through the mines and can seem very long.

Bus
Buses from Noumea run daily to Poindimié and six times a week to Hienghène. Buses run four times a week from Koumac on the northwest coast to Ouégoa and Pouébo.
Air
Air Calédonie flies twice a week to Touho.
