I am considering a trip to the South Pacific again and are looking at going to New Caledonia among other places. Since New Caledonia possibly will be one stop in 2 or 3 I proabably don't have enough time and money to go to several places in New Caledonia. I have been looking at both Ouvea. Lifou and Ile des Pins.
Anyone have any suggestion as to what is the best of the 3 and the difference ?
Thanx for any advice
Has anyone recently been diving on New Caledonia? If so, what dive company did you use--best dive sites and wrecks, etc...Traveling from California in Oct 2016--four divers (two advanced, two open water only), any information would be helpful.
I am planning to go on a 3 week trip to South Pacific next year (2016) around April or May, coming from the west (Belgium), probably via Japan? (don't have the ticket yet) . Never been in the S Pacific, but I thought of flying to N Caledonia first (more of a hunch than an educated choice) and use it as a base to see 1 or 2 more states. It is not easy to know if there are flights between all the S Pacific states, islands. Any suggestions on where to head easily from Noumea after a visit of N…
We are flying from NZ to NC for a weeks holiday in 3 weeks time. We are both vegetarian, one gluten free and basically have picky diets and like to cook for ourselves. To save on buying up in Noumea, and to just have the things we like, we wish to bring a good amount of food with us, but I'm worried lots might be confiscated. We would want to bring: noodles, dehydrated fruit, nuts, soy protein, dry beans, spices, muesli, crackers etc.
Anyone know how strict customs are and which of these…
I am heading off to New Caledonia from Auckland in a couple of days time, which has been quite a spontaneous decision.
I have never been there before, and now I am planning on how to get around (by public transport) and where to spend the nights (I will be travelling with backpack and tent, as I'm on a budget).
I have six days, starting and ending in Nouméa. Of course I want to see as much of this interesting place as I can...has anybody ever been there and can give me some tips at…
Hi. I am going in new Caledonia with my wife at the end of october and its looks like the place to fulfill an old dream: spend a couple of days on a truly deserted island. I would like to go on a small islet, with no facilities and most of all nobody else! I am more than capable of organising my own camp and of sailing my own boat there, but I would like suggestions on where to go, if something like that would be allowed and if there is any danger I am not aware of. Also if you know anyone that…
I've got 2 weeks in New Caledonia over Christmas / New Years and I'm pretty keen to do some hiking, if possible. That being said - I can't find much information about logistics or destinations (beyond broad references to the GR-1, but I'm struggling to find up-to-date information).
Has anyone got some experience with this and can shed any light?
Sorry for the general nature of the question, but I've been struggling to find current information - posts seem to be many years old and the…
Just wondering if banks in Noumea are OK with Amex travellers cheques. I had no trouble with them in Vanuatu a couple of years ago but last year in Penang it took all day to find one branch of one bank that would cash them. I'll be taking a credit card as well, but I've got left-over cheques I want to use as well.
Can anyone recommend any baby friendly accommodation in Noumea? We will be travelling with a 1 year old in late August and have a week booked at a resort in Bourail. We just need to find a spot to start and end the trip. Also any advice on rental car companies would be great. I'm hoping they have child car seats so we don't have to bring ours.
This is a rather embarrassing question, but I have been unable to find an answer anywhere else. I am planning a 2-3 week trip to New Caledonia, and my question is; are continence pads readily available in Noumea? or anywhere else? or will I have to suck it up and pay for extra luggage?
