_________ In keeping with this week’s Friday Flashback, I’m presenting a 32-second, 360-degree view of a typical street in the older part of Kathmandu. It was sensory overload. Everest Base Camp.
Blog: Leave Me Here - 15 September 2009
I’m not sure when it was I decided I was going to Mt. Everest, Nepal has never been a must visit for me, and Edmon Hillary was never an idol. More realistically I think in planning for the trip my thought process was something like this (as studies Atlas): “So I’ll fly into Delhi, then make [...]

Friday Flashback – Whitewater Rafting & Camping Trip
Blog: GoBackpacking - 11 September 2009
In Nepal, I had my pick of the rivers. From day trips to 10-day expeditions, costs were low by western standards and opportunities for adrenaline rushes were high. With only two day trips to my credit, I decided to go with a 3-day trip on the holy Kali Gandaki River, which included a few Class [...]Your Free Subscriber Download

A real “Over the Top” guy
Blog: the reX-Files.ca - 9 September 2009
A couple of months ago, Manish and I were sitting at our favourite mo:mo place (Royal Saino – Bella Momo @ Durbur Marg) when we first met Mike, a lively yet interesting British character who owns a motorcycle tour company here in Nepal (interestingly, he also manages the coffee station at the restaurant). The name of [...]

Friday Flashback – Making Friends Through Meditation
Blog: GoBackpacking - 4 September 2009
Of the 15,000+ photos I took on my trip, this is one of my favorites. Maybe it’s the zen-like smiles we are all offering the camera after three days of meditation, yoga, and Buddhist teachings from our American monk. Or the healthy effects of vegetarian meals. Or the great friendships I formed.

Trails of the Unexpected
Blog: Trail of Ants - 4 September 2009
I stare at the newspaper. It wasn’t me. I gawp at the television. It wasn’t me. I trawl through the internet. It wasn’t me! I listen to the radio, podcasts, and conversations on the bus. It WASN’T me! At least — I hope it wasn’t me? I didn’t know much about Asia before I scribbled [...]

Namaste Nepal!
Blog: Leave Me Here - 3 September 2009
Leaving Melbourne winter and arriving in Kathmandu was something like being slapped around with a hot sweaty dusty doormat, and I really wasnt ready for it. All of a sudden the 15oz Denim I was wearing seemed totally irrelevant and all I could think about was a shower and stripping down. Within the first hour I did [...]

Kathmandu, Nepal
Blog: By Way of the World - 2 September 2009
We arrived in Kathmandu in the early morning after another horrible overnight flight (you can tell I'm really getting sick of the overnight journeys!). We had this leg all arranged in advance, because our main focus here would be teaching in a Tibetan Buddhist monastery. The head of the volunteer organization we went through, Volunteer Service & Support Nepal, greeted us at the airport and took us to our homestay in Kathmandu.

Trekking the Huayhuash Circuit (Part 1)
Blog: Itinerant Londoner - 1 September 2009
Besthike.com describes the Huayhuash circuit as ‘arguably the best hike in the world’. Other sources I’ve seen reckon it’s the second best after the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal. Reports like that meant that hiking there was the single thing I was most looking forward to in my entire year of travelling. I knew it’d be [...]

Friday Flashback – Paragliding In Pokhara
Blog: GoBackpacking - 28 August 2009
Himalayan eagles soared around us as we caught the thermals up and made swooping turns to the left and right going down. It took a few minutes to feel comfortable in the seated position, with nothing below you but the terraced farmland. At least with skydiving you know you’re going straight down.

Giving Back, Teaching Monks in Nepal
Blog: Canada's Adventure Couple - 25 August 2009
There’s one question that crops up with seemingly every new person I meet along my travels: What’s my favorite country? The simple answer, Nepal. Though there are several countries that have touched me, really it’s the people along the way who have impacted me the most; they have shared with me moments, view points and perspective and altered my perceptions of the world.

Friday Flashback – Day 1 of Trekking In Nepal
