High, Ride and Handsome – by bike in the High Atlas Mountains

Derek Workman had a vague plan that one day he’d take a long bike-ride through Morocco, but somehow never got around to doing it. Until, that is, he heard about the bike ride that takes place at the end of March every year in the High Atlas Mountains to raise funds for Education For All, a Moroccan-based charity that builds boarding houses for girls from the poorest of families from remote mountain villages to help them continue their education.

Moroccan Films Raise Questions in Berlin

According to an article on the Qantara website, many of the films shot in Morocco while ostensibly dealing with the country’s social problems,, they in fact tend to ignore the real social and political ills. The article, written by Irit Neidhardt, was in response to a season of Moroccan films screened in Berlin.

Nostalgic paintings of the Fez Medina

Off the Tala Kebira is a small studio filled with vivid oil paintings of Fez. They are the result of a year and a half's work by local painter Abderrahim El Hassani. He has been preparing for an exhibition, Nostalgie, which opens this Friday at Galerie Mohammed Kassimi.

Marrakech Art Fair

The Marrakech Art Fair has just closed, but all reports indicate that the event's founder,Vanessa Devereux, is extremely pleased with the positive reception for this year's event. As we reported back in August, the art fair has been given great support, with 45 international galleries exhibiting their major artists and 20 additional galleries joining the 2010 exhibitors.

For those lucky enough to be able to tune in to BBC 3 this Sunday at 2200, Lucy Duran presents Sufi music from around the world recorded at the recent Transcender Festival at the Barbican in London. "The Ecstatic Journey: Music from around the Sufi world" was one evening gathering together classical traditions, ascetic mediations and exultant celebrations into a single, kaleidoscopic concert showcasing the Sufi songs of Morocco, Pakistan, India and Indonesia.

The Tissa Horse Festival - Latest Update

The View from Fez team are in debt to Michele of the travel company Yomikha Morocco who sent someone to Tissa to check. The latest news is that the first day of the festival is this Friday - September 30th. The festival (we are told) is now only two days and Saturday October 1 is the final day.
