Another 42 degree Celsius day in Fez - not the sort of weather to encourage people to get out and protest. However, the hardy were not discouraged and at 5pm, several hundred, mainly young women, turned out in central Fez to show their support for the constitutional changes. Later in the march they were joined by others.

  9. Artist Claudio Bravo dies in Morocco

Blog: The View from Fez - 7 June 2011

Morocco Board News reports that the painter Claudio Bravo died Saturday, June 4 at the city of Taroudant, at the age of 74. Installed in Morocco since 1972, he will most likely be buried in Taroudant, which he considered his second home.To escape the hectic life of a busy artist in Madrid, the Chilean-born painter Claudio Bravo moved to Morocco where he had three homes: in Taroudant, a house dubbed "the refuge of the artist" - a fortress against the outside world; in Marrakech, a small palace in the Medina, and in Tangier, a sublime garden house.

  13. More Film News From Morocco

Blog: The View from Fez - 18 May 2011

More news from the world of film. For this story we turn our attention, not to Cannes or Hollywood, but the beautiful town of Assilah here in Morocco. South of Tangiers, Assilah, is a favourite holiday spot with good beaches and a colourful history. From a local tower, prisoners were once thrown onto those rocks by El Rassouli, the Berber chief played with an oddly Scottish accent by Sean Connery in "The Wind and The Lion." The tower and fortress now host an annual art festival.

  15. Update on Protests in Morocco

Blog: The View from Fez - 25 April 2011

One of the clear differences between Morocco and other countries where protestors are calling for reforms is that the protests are peaceful. 18. Is it safe to travel to Morocco?

Blog: The View from Fez - 22 February 2011

Despite the odd comment that The View from Fez must be a government mouthpiece, we have to say that the protests in Morocco on Sunday were generally calm and orderly. The police acted with restraint, there was no bombardment of people by airforce jets, no defections by ministers and the King has not fled to Venezuela or anywhere else.
