Lonely Planet review for Restaurant Riad

While all the riads in the Meknès medina have lovely restaurants, this is probably the pick of the bunch. Set around a lush green courtyard, it’s a great place to relax, and while the menu of salads, tajines and couscous is simple, it’s all delicious and served with care and attention.

The worst (and most expensive) meal of our trip

    wendellr does not recommend this,

The garden-setting is terrific and quiet -- but that's about all this place had going for it when we visited during the last week of August 2009. The service was absolutely execrable, with a waiter who must have trained at the Paris School of Haughty Table Service. He spoke French only -- not a word of English or Spanish -- was unable to explain what was on the menu (in fact, of a very limited selection of perhaps 10 dishes, it turned out that 3 weren't available), and feigned an inability to understand a single word that we were saying (all but impossible in Fez). But the worst part was that both of us came down with serious intestinal infections after eating here and were forced to take antiobiotics for nearly 2 weeks. We should have known better when our food (a tajine and a chicken couscous) arrived tepid and slightly off-smelling, but we were hungry. Big mistake. That certainly put a damper on the rest of trip. Avoid at all costs.

not only a (good) restaurant, but also a (bad) place to stay

    lumar77 recommends this,

This Riad is also a charming place to stay: however, despite of the prices and good internet presentation, the hotel service is very disappointing. We have tried two rooms, and in every room there was something broken (lamps, sink, etc...). In overall, the price is very European and the service is not adequate to the price, despite of the big staff and constant presence of the owner. Our feedback for the hotel service is negative, though the restaurant deserves a visit, a least for the nice location, the riad's gorgeous garden.
