International Symposium on Mediterranean Wetlands and WaterA new International Symposium will be held in Agadir, between 6-8 February. The symposium will review and evaluate the progress made in the twenty years since the Grado summit in Italy. Grado was a turning point that revitalised interest among the scientific community for Mediterranean wetlands, creating great impetus that led to developments such as the establishment of the Mediterranean Wetlands Initiative (MedWet).

He is 21. She is a well known British soap opera star and he is a virtually penniless Moroccan goatherd.

Agadir to get new bus fleet

Agadir is about to get a new bus fleet. It has been announced that the Spanish operator ALSA has chosen Scania to deliver 120 out of 147 buses for operation in the tourist city of Agadir in southern Morocco. The buses will be delivered during 2010.

International Whaling Commission meets in Agadir

On the agenda was a draft plan allowing Norway, Iceland and Japan to hunt whales legally near Antarctica and elsewhere for 10 years in exchange for a gradual drop in numbers killed, John Vidal reports for The Guardian.

Ten airports in Morocco, among them Casablanca, Rabat-Sale, Tangier, Tetouan, Fez, Al Hoceima, Nador, Agadir, Tan Tan and Essaouira — mostly major tourist stops — were being closed until at least 07h00 today, Wednesday 12 May.A Transport Ministry statement carried by Maghreb Arab Press news agency said it wants "to guarantee a maximum level of security for passengers" as the ash cloud passes over the kingdom on the Atlantic Coast.

The Decline of Cinemas in Morocco

Walking by the the Cinema Boujloud in Fez is a sad experience for anyone who loves old movie houses. This once bustling cinema is closed and used for storage of market goods. The seating was still in place in the auditorium when seen in 2006. Cinema Boujaloud is symptomatic of the Moroccan cinema market which has been suffering a severe decline during the past years.

Haifa Wahbi to star in tolerance music concertFor the third consecutive year, the city of Agadir will host the"Concert for Tolerance" on October 17th that seeks to promote the culture of tolerance and coexistence. The concert, organized by the Association of Tolerance in partnership with Moroccan TV-2M and French TV channel M6, is a cultural bridge between the two Mediterranean shores chanting peace, fraternity and unity.
