Can a standard chicken tagine with olives and preserved lemons really be worth almost three times what you'd pay in the Djemaa? Tangia will quell any such doubt with aromatic herbed olives, caramelised sauce with a lemony tang but no bitterness, and plump chicken very different from the anorexic variety served elsewhere - and at the next table over, the editors of American and French Vogue also seemed to approve.

Le Tanjia, a "Brasserie Orinetale," located at the entrance to the Mellah in Marrakech, proved to be the best restaurant I dined while vacationing in Morroco. A trip which lasted 19 days traveling 1,800 kilometers and dining at at least a dozen restaurants throughout Morocco. At the entrance of the restaurant, you are greeted by a very friendly and helpful staff which guides you to a seat of your choice. Ideally, you will have passed by earlier in the day to reserve your table or seats. The restaurant does get crowded, but tables are spaced out enough to allow for a pleasant dining experience. Once seated in very nice tables with white linen and nice crystalware, attentive waiters will take care of you. The waiters were very attentive to detail, but not stuffy. They made sure you ware weaited upon, but without being to overbearing and giving you enough personal space. The quality of the food and decent size servings were well worth the price. I had the pleasure to eat Lamb Tagine cooked with Almonds and Pears. It was the best Lamb Tagine that I ate in all of Morocco. I must add, I ate Lamb Tagine in many different restaurants throughout different cities and towns in Morocco. On top of the great service and fantastic savory deliciuous food, the atmosphere of the restaurant, added to the enjoyment of the dining experience. The restaurant has special chandeliers and lamps that creates a mystic lighting effect. Enough light for it not to be too dark, but dark enough to make it very relaxing and sensual. Last but not least is the live Morocco band of three musicians playing and singing traditional Moroccon songs. Better that music played through a CD player and a sound system. Lastly, the restaurant also has a nightly Belly Dancing show to top off the dining experience.
