Spouse and I are thinking of heading to Montserrat this summer. We are interested in seeing what we can of the destroyed town (I realize this will be from a distance), hiking, and generally enjoying an island with little tourism. If anyone has been there recently, I would love to hear about your experience. This would be our primary reason for traveling, and not just a day trip.
I've seen conflicting posts about whether it is possible to get a permit to travel in the Exclusion…
My wife and I are heading to Antigua in mid-April for the first leg of our honeymoon. Considering that she loves volcanos we have had the idea of travelling by ferry from Antigua to Montserrat and returning on the same day. Does anyone have any experience of this (positive or negative)? Would we have enough time on Montserrat to see the main sights?
Secondly, can anyone recommend a local guide for Montserrat? We would love to get up as close as possible to the volcano, visit the…
The ferry between Antigua and Montserrat runs 4 times a week from Wednesday to Saturday (from Deep Harbour to Little Bay) and is operated by a company from Nevis. Return ticket (open) costs 300 ecd and is to be paid cash.
We (2 adults and a teen) are planning on going in July 2011. Anyone been in July - what's the weather like? It's been awhile since anyone has listed their thoughts on Montserrat. Anyone been there lately? We are snorkelers/divers and hikers. Any fairly inexpensive accomodations recommended (we are open to B & Bs, villas, hotels...). Any dive/accomodation packages? Any preference for dive shops? Is the best way to get there through Antigua? Anyone rent a car while on the island? Thank…
hey guys im travelling solo to jamaica and will be in kingston on the 30th nov 2010. my plan is to stay a few days in kingston before making my way to port antonio.
i was just wondering if there was any other solo back-packers (or whoever) out there that would be keen to hook up and do some travel.
also if anyone has any good places to stay there at a reasonable price with some nice beaches and a nightlife. sorry to waffle on !
Considering Montsserat as our next vacation destination.
We will be going for a month.
What are the beaches like? the snorkeling - from the beach?
Are there any beach front villas-cottages-homes for rent? I could not find any so far?
My husband and I love beach combing, hiking, snorkeling and safety with not very many people around.
Does Montsserat seem like a good fit?
Peace to all travelers! I'm quickly falling in love with the Caribbean; I've heard that Montserrat is one of the cheapest of the islands and after searching past threads here I've not yet determined the authenticity of that proclamation. So, is it true, is Montserrat cheap and an out-of-the-way Caribbean destination that is still to be fully discovered and converted into a cog in the tourist industries machine? Please, thoughts both large and small are welcome!
Going to Montserrat with 4 college girlfriends. Any suggestions? On or near the beach is preferable, quieter (fewer families) preferred, within a short drive to good restaurants.
