Lonely Planet review for Chinggis Club

Micro-brewery serving some of the best beer in the country. There's also a filling meat-and-potatoes menu designed by a German chef.

Genuine Brewery/Restaurant in the Center of UB

    mongolawyer recommends this,

As one of my favorite restaurants in UB, I'm surprised when I meet a foreigner who hasn't eaten here. But every time I recommend it, or bring someone here for the first time, he becomes an instant fan. The atmosphere is that of a truly German beer hall, with a dark wood bar and cozy high-backed wooden benches and tables packed around it. On one wall are large windows through which you can view the big brewing tanks of fresh Chinggis Beer. The wait staff are very courteous, and the friendly patrons are primarily Mongolian, who come to watch sporting events on the large screen televisions. It definitely has that casual, local, neighborhood-feel.
But this place is much more than just centrally-located, clean and friendly. The food is delicious (and consistently-so -- often rare in UB!), it's reasonably priced, and the beer is some of the best in Mongolia! "Chinggis" beer is widely available in UB; however, when you drink it here, it's very fresh. They also have a dark beer on draft that I've never seen anywhere else, but which is very tasty and has a smooth aftertaste without too much bitterness (1/2 Liter drafts of both light and dark cost around US$3.50). And what better to enjoy your beer with than some delicious German-style food. I highly recommend the "Speckman" which is a beef steak, smothered in delicious pepper gravy and served with potatoes and vegetables. The portion is large and only around US$8. The bratwurst plate is also very good (the sausage must come from Germany) and includes potatoes and veggies. My final favorite, although not very German, is the Spaghetti Bolognese. For around US$4.50, you get a large plate of spaghetti covered in very-meaty bolognese sauce and topped off with a pile of fresh Mongolian cheese. Delicious! They have many other options on the menu, but these are so good, that I tend to rotate through these three dishes.
