Lonely Planet review for Café Amsterdam
At the time of writing this place was set to open as Mongolia first literary café. The Dutch owners have promised café au lait, pannekoeken (crepes) and homemade cheese (in season), as well as shelves of books that you can borrow, trade or buy. Poetry readings and guest speakers are expected so check the chalkboard for upcoming events.

An oasis.
mapninja recommends this,
After a 2 week archaeological survey expedition and nothing but boiled mutton and instant coffee, Cafe Amsterdam's English Breakfast and Americano have returned me to the civilized world! Make this your headquarters for WiFi and fantastic coffee.
Good for: Shaking the Gobi dust off.

A small dose of European comfort in Ulaanbaatar
mcrunkleton recommends this,
Go especially on Wednesday nights at 7:00pm. There are free films, talks, and music.
The food is good, and there is more variety than you can usually find in UB. The coffee (Illy) is a special treat and a personal favorite on the nights when the temperature goes below -40(F). A recent bowl of vegetable soup with a good roll and butter on the side hit the spot.Good for: Romance, atmosphere, food, Budget Travellers, Solo Travellers, service, Families
