Just got back from Mongolia, I thought I would like to share some of my experiences with the Mongolianbound tourists.
** A tour or do it your own?**
This is often the most frequently asked question for the independent traveller. Mongolia is big, roads a in a very bad shape and public transport is very limited. therefore, a lot of tourists opt for an organized tour. In an organized tour, the tour operator provides everything from transport, accomodation and food. If you do it yourself, you simply…
hi! me and my 3 friends would like to book a tour through Mongolia. Anybody tips on reliable tour operators? Should not be at the high-end of the market.
greetings, from Holland!
Has anyone ever done the Trans-mongolian railway with a tour provider? My understanding is that we cannot apply for a visa until 3 months before entering the country however we are travelling around for 5 months before entering Mongolia and therefore wont be able to organise our visa from home.
Has anyone ever gotten their Mongolian visa in Hong Kong and can tell me how to go about this process? Will they provide this to Irish and UK passport holders and what documentation is required?
My name is Alex and I'm a 33 years old Canadian. I'll be arriving in UB around the 5th of sept. (12:40am flight)and leaving the 26th. Although I have nothing set in stone at the moment, if anyone is interested in teaming up and sharing costs (food, driver, so on..) let me know!
Also looking for a good driver/guide for these dates.
For those heading to the beautiful Khuvsgul Lake in Northern Mongolia, I strongly recommend to stop at the Mongol Ujin Camp. I just spent a few very relaxing days there. Dawaa, the owner, speaks perfect English and loves this area. She is full of good advises on where to go for a treck, a horse or bicycle ride. She is really passionate with the nature around the Lake and is a pleasure to talk to.
The Mongol Ujin Camp is located near the river and not far from the shops in town. Very…
I purchase a RT ticket on Saturday through their website and paid with credit card... the charge has posted on my credit account just fine, and I received a "email receipt" but did not get the usual "online ticket email" with the full itinerary... has anyone purchased an online ticket through AeroMongolia?
HI, I'm from Portugal but live in Dubai at the moment. There's no Mongolian embassy here. According to what I've read I can get a visa on arrival but I need an invitation letter. I was thinking in doing independent travel so I guess the tour operators can't help me. Do you know where can I get this invitation and if getting a visa on arrival is actually a "safe" system?
I'm planning to visit the Gorkhi Terelj park in late September 2016, and have a few questions to those of you that have been there -
1) What is the best to go there directly from the UB airport?
2) Recommendations for a nice Ger camp or hotel
3) I plan to be there for 2 nights, what are the highlights that I should see?
4) Is it possible to rent a bicycle there?
Thank you for your help!
For those who have been: How would you rate the safety for a single traveler, white male american? I've heard there is a xenophobic undertone in some parts of the capital that can turn violent. Just curious as to the general mood for travelers. I've been to La Paz, Addis Ababa, and Sao Paolo without incident but was curious. Rumors are always a bummer.
