The 591-sq-km Reserva de la Biósfera Ría Celestún is home to a huge variety of animal and bird life, including a large flamingo colony.
The best months to see the flamingos are from March or April to about September, outside the season of the nortes. Morning is the best time of day, though from 16:00 onward the birds tend to concentrate in one area after the day's feeding, which can make for good viewing.
