Lonely Planet review for Mistonga

When you dine Argentine, steak is your best option. This gorgeous enclosed courtyard restaurant serves it in a variety of ways, such as milanesa (pounded thin and breaded) and chimichurri (marinated in a garlic, parsley and olive oil sauce). It also has a fantastic Argentine wine list.

    Do Not Miss Mistonga!

    ourdub recommends this,

I recently spent 2 weeks in Patzcuaro. Having been in the restaurant business in New Orleans for many years, I am always on the lookout for restaurants which are unique, simple and fun. My favorite dining experience in Mexico is often tacos, or flautas at the local mercado.

I had the good fortune to eat at Mistonga many of the days and nights I was in Patzcuaro, and the food was never less than outstanding, the service from Chelli charming and efficient, and the hospitality of Susy Santiago the owner, completely welcoming. Some nights I dined with friends, butr often I was by myself and was always made to feel totally comfortable,

The preparation of each dish while deliciously complex, always had the straighforward robust edge of food prepared with instinct and the freshest of available local ingredients. Susy also uses certain herbs and spices which she grows herself usually available only in Argentina. The Tarascan filet was the most tender (muy suave) beef I have had the pleaure to eat. There was not one dish I tried (and I sampled the entire menu) which was not excellent. Chef Maribel and her mother who assist Susy in the kitchen approach each plate as if it is the mowt important one of the day.

The restaurant itself has an exotic and dramatic feel while still being completely comforttable and welcoming. The guitar music is never intrusive but only deepens the sense that you are truly dining somewhere very unique.

Patzcuaro is a magical place full of mysteries to be discovered. Mistonga shares that magic with each person who has to good fortune to dine there. And just for good measure, the prices are reasonable and a great value for such fine dining and that extends to the fantastic wine list as well.

If you are lucky enough to visit the beautiful town of Patzcuaro, do not miss the unique dining experience at Cafe Mistonga.
