Lonely Planet review for El Caldero

Simple, friendly little El Caldero specializes in delicious, filling Mexican soups – pozole (shredded pork in broth), mondongo (tripe), caldo (broth) with avocados, tortillas and various salsas. Great for an authentic and inexpensive local meal.

    Mediocre but economical soups

    latiagringa does not recommend this,

This is good for a cheap meal when you want soup - it is nothings special. The tortillas should be hand made that go in the soup so they don't go mushy, but they're not. Not bad. Just OK.

    delicious food, great value

This is a great place for lunch near the zocalo. The bowls of soup are enormous, the posole is delicious, prices are low, and service is good. Best meal we've had. In San Cristobal.
