Gato Gordo attracts travelers in droves for its excellent, well-prepared food at terrific prices. There's an unbeatable set lunch, and excellent pasta, crepes, Mexican snacks and meat dishes, plus a great choice of drinks.

    El Gato Gordo- don't waste your time OR money!

    I feel terrible for all of the Lonely Planet Guide users who came here (we saw 2 other tables clutching theirs as they entered). The book is right to say that the food is cheap. You definitely get what you pay for. The set menu consisted of a bowl of water and greasy torilla chips (supposed to be tortilla soup). Followed by a baked potato "stuffed" with cheese. This restaurant seems to have forgotten that vegetarians eat vegetables.
    The service was absolutely atrocious and I think the waiter could have cared less that we were there. We had to ask twice for everything (drinks, silverware, check).
    I would not eat here, San Cristobal is full of restuarant options at affordable prices. This is not it.
