After an eight hour driving from Oaxaca to Tuxtla Gutierrez, eating nothing but chips and mantecados, I started wondering if me and my girlfriend would make it to San Cristobal de las Casas alive. On the 85 km curvy road up there, rain was pouring in and we felt like it was not worth it. It was only when we saw a couple of rainbows coming out of the town's centre that we started feeling like there was something there for us. Exhausted and hungry, we were begging for a nice hot meal, but we found more than that. San Cristobal is the most cozy and charming mexican town we´ve visited, and La Paloma represents it well. A very romantic atmosphere, with an inner garden and low lights. Our steaks were perfectly grilled, with an amazing tamarindo and chili sauce. What surprised us the most, though, were the best mashed potatoes we've ever had!! We ordered a bottle of wine and all that went for great price. We were also delighted by the Kiki Suarez art gallery next door, with an entrance form inside the restaurant. A great finding in this surprising mexican town!
