Things to do in Puerto Ángel

  1. A

    Azul Profundo

Several operators on and around Playa del Panteón offer a four-hour, four-beach snorkeling boat trip, including Estacahuite and La Boquilla beaches, with snorkel gear included. En route you should see turtles and, with luck, dolphins and even (from November to May) migrating whales. Azul Profundo does this trip daily at 09:30 and will pick you up and drop you off at your accommodation in Puerto Ángel or Zipolite; amiable guide Chepe speaks English and German.

    Beto’s

On the uphill stretch of Boulevard Uribe toward the west side of town, you’ll find Beto’s, a relaxed, economical, friendly and clean little place with a large terrace. Offerings range from fish fillets and ceviches to chicken and beef dishes. Spot it by the string of colored lights leading up the steps. Beto’s keeps seasonal hours, so if you come during the off season, have a backup plan in mind.

    Restaurante Susy

This restaurant on Playa del Panteón offers fish and seafood for M$50 to M$200, plus cheaper fare such as entomatadas (a variation of enchiladas) and eggs. It stays open until 10pm or 11pm, and the setting is very pretty after dark. Be careful about the freshness of the seafood in the low season.

  5. Playa Estacahuite

About 500m up the road from Playa del Panteón toward Pochutla, a sign points along a path to Playa Estacahuite, 700m away. The three tiny, sandy bays here are good for snorkeling, but watch out for jellyfish. A couple of shack restaurants serve reasonably priced seafood and pasta, and rent snorkels.

Playa del Panteón, on the west side of the bay, is a small, shallow and calm beach, and its waters are cleaner than those near the pier across the bay.
