Lonely Planet review for Mercado Sánchez Pascuas
This excellent indoor market doesn’t have the overwhelming manic atmosphere of others in town, but its comedores are excellent and cheap. Plus it’s just out of the way enough to have a great local feel.

There are even better city markets
chocolateidea does not recommend this,
While Sanchez Pascuas is nice it pales with the Merced Market about 8 blocks east of the zocolo. though open every day, its main day is Sunday. Wonderful fresh vegetables, bread, meats, and tamales. Some of the best in Oaxaca. All the tamale sellers are together and if you look for the largest sellers you will be fine. The family is all slightly round. It's worth it to find the empanada and memela seller in the north passageway between the bread and the patio. They are baked under a coal fire and include tongue, huitlacocke, tinga, and vegetables. This is one of the few places in town to buy the rippled wonderful local tomatoes and in season mushrooms, flowers, and fruits from the mountains. Very clean, many good comedors, and across the street is the best seafood shop in town - Muelle.
