Centro de Esperanza Infantil information
This is a nonpolitical, nonreligious center that sponsors and cares for about 600 children from poor families who, without assistance, could not get an education. The staff welcomes donations, sponsors and visitors, and volunteers can help with tutoring (especially in mathematics, Spanish and English), administrative work or projects with the children. Even a half-day of assistance can be helpful.
Some knowledge of Spanish is useful for volunteers, but not essential. Volunteers offering workshops, for example in art, handicrafts or photography, are especially welcome. About 10 kids from here go on to graduate from university each year.
