    Erratic and flighty

    heartjean does not recommend this,

After enjoying another language school in San Cristobal in Chiapas, I had high expectations going in. A few students and I got completely ripped off on a paid excursion for Dia de los Muertos organized by the school. The receptionists are not very warm or welcoming and they were all over the place everyday I came in. Maybe it is the low season so they aren´t as organized as they should have been? Its one saving grace was that my teacher Moctezuma, was really great...he deserves to work for a better school though. There was coffee on Monday when I started but it mysteriously disappeared the rest of the week. If there´s one thing you should make sure is working...it´s the coffee machine! Sheesh! Look elsewhere!

    A great value

    pele recommends this,

I agonized over picking a school (and a country!) to study Spanish.

A web site's content and design obviously count. Beyond that I was looking for a personal recommendation from someone I trusted. Fortunately for me, my network of friends included one who'd gone to Vinigúlaza.

The school is not particularly fancy but is clean and well maintained. I found the staff professional. They promote intercambios so you can get paired up with Spanish-speaking natives looking to improve their English. The staff also helps orient you to Oaxaca, sets up tours of nearby pueblos and otherwise keeps you plugged into cultural events.

La directora, Catherine Kumar, reared in London but now so fluent she speaks like an hablante nativa, is a kick in the pants.

All in all, a memorable experience.

Oaxaca is the best place and Vinigulaza is the best school

    beaming recommends this,

If you are interested in studying Spanish then you are headed in the right direction in coming here. Oaxaca, Mexico is the best place and Vinigulaza is the best school for the best price. Set in an amazing locale amidst mountains, ruins and an amazing diverse culture, Vinigulaza is situated in the Centro Historico district the center of all activity. VInigulaza has over 20 years experience teaching language here and it shows. The hidden secret is the private group accommodations at the beach in Puerto Escondido!! Perfect for families and small groups wanting a relaxed vacation setting.

Good for: culture, beach, Spanish classes, best price

Super friendly and fun and diverse,

    themightygreegor recommends this,

Oaxaca in general and Vinigulaza in particular have coaxed me back a few times over the years. The first time, back in 1999, I just stumbled upon it. I needed to study Spanish and figured that one place was as good as another - after all, it was in Mexico, right? Well, over the years I've come to realise how lucky I had been. Vinigulaza doesn't just have good, active and memorable Spanish classes (though they do have those!), they also had activities in the school and outside, learning to do things like traditional crafts, dancing, etc, going around town and on day trips in the surrounding area, and so on, all with locals teaching me not just Spanish, but about their area and history, IN Spanish. It was one of the most rewarding educational experiences I've had. So much so that I go back as often as I can - through Vinigulaza I have made quite a few, lasting, friends in Oaxaca. I can't recommend this school highly enough!

Superb - great dynamic classes and a personal warm service,

    isabellebrown recommends this,

I have studied twice at this school as I want to brush up on my Spanish and I LOVE Oaxaca. I scouted around the other places but they are too corporate and informal in my opinion... Here I had a great rapport with the teachers, who really listened out to help me improve my Spanish, get into Oaxca life and make the learning process fun. The school is centrally located which is a big plus. I highly reccommend this school, the lessons and its teachers!

Good for: Fun learning good value staff

Good mix of conversation and grammar gave me confidence!

    emilyegg12 recommends this,

As a more skilled Spanish speaker, I wanted to get a good dose of grammar and then get practice using it. My teacher at Vinigulaza understood my needs exactly and was able to get me where I wanted to be. I used the skills that I gained in class the whole time that I was in Oaxaca. It was time and money well spent!

Good for: meeting locals, Friendly Staff, the grammar program, meeting fellow travelers, Spanish conversation

    Not good for: excursions

It´s a great, friendly school - classes are inexpensive.

    oaxaca recommends this,

Academia Vinigulaza is a small school and the staff are really friendly. I got a lot out of their course, they have written their own course book that focuses on conversation and I learned a LOT in a short time!
Students are given a free placement test and you really do get the class that is the right level for you. I´m volunteering in Oaxaca and needed to learn Spanish for my job so I really appreciated the opportunity to meet locals and learn vocabulary in my field.
I know there are also classes for children because there was a family studying when I was there, they were very happy too.

Good for: Families, volunteering, Spanish classes, Spanish conversation, Internships
