Lonely Planet review for Café la Blanca
White-coated waiters and orange upholstery set the tone for this 1960s relic offering hearty breakfasts and daily lunch specials. Sit at the U-shaped counter or grab a table by the window for people-watching over a cappuccino.

Cafe La Blanca: solid food and service. No frou-frou.
anonimo recommends this,
It had been sixteen years since we'd last eaten at Cafe La Blanca.
Recently, in need of Chicken Soup For a Cold, we went unerringly to Café La Blanca, about a block west on the opposite side of 5 de Mayo. This place is an institution, in business since 1915. It's large, bustling and pretty much no nonsense nor frou-frou. The closest to frou-frou are the crocheted doilies of colored yarn that the mostly matronly waitresses wear.My wife (with the cold) had a bowl of Consommé de Pollo con Arroz. It was made from real chickens and was HOT. She then had some pretty good Hígado Encebollado (Liver and onions). It was tasty if a bit tough. It came unaccompanied, so we ordered bread and a plate of very tasty, fresh cut French Fries, cooked in a mystery fat, but good to the last morsel.
I went for one of the Sugerencias del Chef; Fabada Asturiana, a thick soup of large white beans cooked with various forms of cured pork. It was very good. With two orders of hot Té de Hierba Buena, the bill came to about $150 MXP.
We liked the place and won't wait so long before eating there again.Good for: food, Solo Travellers, service
