Amazing. Totally redefined my experience of Mexico.

    jhogan42 recommends this,

There is a reason that Journeys Beyond The Surface is ranked 1st on here out of all the activities in Mexico City...

This totally redefined my experience visiting another country. If you travel to learn about the world, to experience and discover the richness of another culture, society, how their history and politics and economics has shaped them... you NEED to do something like this.

You are paying, what, probably at least $500 per person for your trip to Mexico City? More? A *half-day* with Mojdeh will at least *double* the depth and richness of the experience for a fraction of the cost.

She's wonderful. Knowledgeable, pleasant, interesting, attentive. It felt very comfortable and natural having her as a guide and companion.

I'll likely be back to Mexico City because of this experience, and will be looking her up again when I come back.

Good for: culture, history, education, social, learning, travel, Politics, guide, tour, economy

    Personal touch with the City

    vitaliknyc recommends this,

This tour was one of the most memorable experiences I had during my week long stay in Mexico City. Mojdeh's personality paired with in-depth knowledge of Mexican culture made the whole day be felt as one very personal stroll around the city with an old friend. The places we visited are way off the beaten path and are highly unlikely to be on your itinerary. The tour opens a completely different prospective, it connects you with the City on a deep, truly intimate level.

    The Tour for non-tour takers!

    c0rdelia recommends this,

Journey's Beyond the Surface offers an experience that no tourist or traveler could access because Mojdeh knows the city in and out and gives people an experience beyond the tourist-trap/money-making schemes. I never felt like I was on a tour - it feels like you are exploring the city with a friend of a friend who knows just where to go. Highly recommended, this Journey's Beyond the Surface has stuck with me for years as one of my best traveling experiences!!

    Good for: anyone.

I discovered places and people I never would´ve found alone!

    glanvilledan recommends this,

I am not usually a tour taker, prefering to find my own way and discover things for myself, but I was both a little daunted by the size and reputation of Mexico City and I only had 5 days there. I was keen to get a real sense of the place, beyond what I could see for myself, beyond the guide books and obvious tourist sights. I did three seperate activities with 2 different guides from Journeys Beyond the Surface in November this year. Mojdeh and Alvaro were both excellent guides and also a total pleasure to hang out with. They are both very knowlegable and clearly passionate about Mexico City, its people, its past, and its present. Mojdeh is a really excellent interpreter too. One of the days I spent with her we went and met some people involved in a community culturual development project. My spanish is really basic and so her seamless translation allowed me to have conversations with people in two languages without anyone missing anything. I was completely inspired after that tour. As well as going out with each of them, Mojdeh was able to give me great advice about other activities I could do alone. She even gave me a referal to someone who could give me a massage when I had strained a muscle in my shoulder and was in pain - it was by the way an excellent massage!
I think the best part about choosing to spend these days with the Journey´s folk is I feel like I got invited into places I never could have gone without an invitation. To go into the heart of Tepito was a really great experience. And you know it didn´t feel like a tour, thats how good it was!

Good for: history, seeing the real Mexico City, spanish translation, understanding culture, deeper insight

    Amazing experience

    lianatravelgirl recommends this,

I highly recommend Journeys Beyond the Surface as it is highly adaptable to anything that you would specifically like to learn or see. Even though Mexico City is huge and busy, Mojdeh really looks after everyone and ensures their safety. Mojdeh helped 12 of us ride the subway during rush hour, and literally pried the doors open so that we could all fit into the same one. She is a great guide, extremely familiar and knowledgeable of Mexico City. Mojdeh is easy to get a long with and will go out of her way to make your visit the best one possible. Journeys Beyond will help you in setting up accommodation, advising you on where to eat and general safety during your stay. If you are looking for an alternative tour of the city and life, she can certainly accommodate your interests. I highly recommend taking a tour of the National Palace with Alvaro, he was easy to understand and could answer any questions we had. By the end of our stay everyone in our group was extremely sad to be leaving Mojdeh and Mexico City since we had such a great trip. Five Stars!!!

Good for: fun, Safety, alternative, alternative tours
