The most famous and best restored of Yucatán Maya sites, these ruins will impress even the most jaded visitor. As you approach from the western entrance, El Castillo, the Pyramid of Kukulcán rises before you. Solve the mysteries of the Mayan astronomical calendar at the vernal and autumnal equinoxes (re-created nightly in a sound-and-light show). The heat, humidity and crowds can be fierce here.
