    La Bodeguita del Medio

This pseudo-Cuban joint is right next door to Bar Bariachi. Graffiti decorates the walls. A restaurant is upstairs (balcony tables are best) and a bar downstairs. Live Cuban music and Cuban dance lessons are a regular feature. Check out the cigar display and sign that states 'Life's too short to smoke cheap cigars.'

    Barbarroja

Ahoy matey! From a boat-shaped bar to girls in sexy pirate costumes dancing on tables, this over-the-top, pirate-themed pub is one of several beachfront bars near the bungee tower. But it’s the only one where a 30-year-old can walk in and not feel like the oldest person in the world.

    Salón Rincón Colonial

This Cuban-style drinking establishment served as a location for Original Sin, a 2001 movie with Antonio Banderas that was set in Havana. The botanas (drinking snacks) are exceptionally fine; you get a different selection with each round.

    Limerick Pub

Young Mexicans have some craic in this traditional Irish pub, which has all the paraphernalia to fit the bill: a pool table, darts, eighties tunes and Guinness. Oh and did you hear the one about the belly dancer? (She sometimes makes an appearance, too.)

    Dublin Irish Pub

Not one of those by-the-numbers Irish pubs you so often find in foreign lands; this lovely 1855 house actually has a pub atmosphere. Quaff a pint of Guinness (M$75) or sip something from the long mixed-drinks list. Rock bands rock the house on weekends.

    Hussong’s Cantina

The oldest and perhaps liveliest cantina in the Californias has been serving tequila since 1892. It’s one of the few bars filled with people who aren’t just 20-somethings trying to get plastered.
