Just off the zócalo, you still have a view of the jovial ruckus and get the mariachi overflow. The menu has great variety and regional classics including steak tampiqueño.

    Don't Bother

    This has to be the most over-rated restaurant in Veracruz. I was last there in March of 2008, and had to make a stab at it after 3 successful year visits, each one more ludicrous than the next.

    First off, although the menu is quite extensive, it's nothing you can't find quite usually in most restaurants around the Centro Historico. There doesn't seem to be any quality control as far as the place is concerned. One night you might get a nice, say, pecho de pollo with veggies; then next night, this same order will arrive at your table (after a 30 minute wait), looking as if they had slaughtered one of the pigeons in the plaza, cleaned it, and run it under a broiler for a few minutes. People, I'm not exagerating here. I was presented with this particular "speciality" last time. All it lacked was the little claws pointing upward.

    And then there's their sparkling service - read almost non-existent. One might wait, oh, a half hour for some waiter to fly by and drop a menu on the table. Take your time deciding on your choice -- you might bring a book -- because it'll be a long, long wait 'til one of the waiters manages to come over and grudging take your order, since you're quite obviously interrupting his valuable time.

    I wouldn't bother with this place. It's all hat, no cattle.
