The Westin looms like a huge white and pink structural monster in the northern harbor area of Marina Vallarta. Expansive, palm-studded grounds shelter the almost 900 balconied rooms in modern splendor.
It's a little impersonal, but the service is crisp and efficient. While it's tempting to grouse about the architecture, which evokes a futuristic pre-Columbian temple motif, after a spell it may start to work its magic on you. Strolling among the hundreds of palm trees surrounding the four mammoth swimming pools impresses even those who eschew glitzy resorts. The rooms - all outfitted with deluxe mattresses and bedding - are breezy and chic, and the Nikki Beach Club gets a groove on during the high season.
