On Playa Solmar, just off Blvd Marina, the Finisterra commands an impressive clifftop location. Some rooms have fireplaces, while others have either ocean or marina views. Its Whale Watcher Bar is a splendid spot for a drink with a view.
The Finisterra has the usual goods and bads of these kinds of mega-resorts; its rooms are clean and sterile but a bit bland; the service is impeccable but impersonal; and it's not at all the intimate, cosy atmosphere that you can find in a small boutique hotel. What makes the Finisterra worth a stay is its fun palapa-shaded pool, plus the advantage of an internet cafe for anyone needing to keep up on things back home. Its Blue Marlin bar is a great spot to watch grey whales round Land's End on their way into the Sea of Cortez, and the multi-leveled walkways make it fun to get around.
