About me

Mid-life crisis or coming to my senses? After 20 years of working for various non-profit health-related charities, it’s time for a change.

To begin the change process, I entered an eMBA program in the Fall of 2008 to get a better understanding of the value I bring to an organization and the type of work that interests me. If I have another 20 years of working life ahead of me, I want them to be personally and professional rewarding and challenging.

Now that the program is about to end (April 2010), the next change event is to try to find where in the world I want to spend the second half of my working life. To that end, my boyfriend and I are considering taking a year to travel the world. Neither of us has done a “gap year” trip before, and so now’s the time to take the plunge.

The longest trip I’ve been on was a month in Australia, and so the idea of a year-long (or longer!) around the world trek is quite daunting! I’ve been to many cities in the US and England/Scotland, have spent a couple of weeks in Costa Rica and celebrated my 40th birthday in Macchu Pichu. These experiences certainly clarified that I love to get out to see the world at a slow pace, and I hope they’re enough to get me started on this new adventure on the right foot!

Most of the travel guides and blogs I’ve come across so far have assumed that I’m a 20-year old heterosexual looking to party, and so I’m especially interested in hearing about your experiences traveling the world as an older gay adult. Who knows, maybe our paths will cross somewhere soon!
