Winchester's book was kind of the inspiration for the walk. I've selected my own theme though - Traditional alcohol culture and food :)

Well, it's more a plan to explore the areas and islands along the coast by foot, rather than a fixed plan to hug the coastal road......

Some of the blogs are probably helpful such as:

Galbijim appears pretty handy as well:

For general information, try the KTO's website:

And for learning Korean online, try:
Anything in particular you need to know? I've only visited, not lived there.

I had a quick look and found this - http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/CU/CU_EN_8_5_1_5.jsp
It will probably get you close, then you could follow the beach to find it.

Blogging...
I've started blogging as practice and preparation for my six-week walk along the south coast of Korea later this year -

It's quiet here now, but hopefully people can share later if they're doing something similar.

Oh, I should also point out that this appears to be the same dictionary as the Berlitz dictionary. Buy whichever one is cheaper.

Thumbs up to the book titled Korean: Lonely Planet Phrasebook
Thumbs up to the book titled Korean: Lonely Planet Phrasebook A decent phrasebook. Like most phrasebooks, it's not really culturally adjusted, so there are things in here that are technically correct but which just don't make any sense to use in Korea(n).

Thumbs up to the book titled Langenscheidt's Pocket Dictionary Korean/English English/Korean
Thumbs up to the book titled Langenscheidt's Pocket Dictionary Korean/English English/Korean Not so good for Korean to English, but a good 'speaking' dictionary. That is, it will help you say what you mean. *May* be OK for listening, as you can attempt to look words up phonetically instead of using Hangeul, but this leaves you at the mercy of their approach to romanisation, which is a challenging problem.

Thumbs up to the book titled Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader: North Korea and the Kim Dynasty Excellent modern history of Korea, giving context to the development of the North by describing what was happening in the South at the same time.

Thumbs up to the book titled Teach Yourself Korean (Teach Yourself Complete Courses) Excellent introduction to the language, and pocketable. The CD is less helpful, as the dialogues are really slow, but OK as a guide to pronunciation.

Maybe just going is the hardest part. I'm certainly hoping that's true when I go to Korea later this year. I saw a similar quote recently on walking, but can't find it. Something like 'Plan for a day, plan for a year. Eventually, you must walk.'

1987, getting stuck outside in Suva after curfew. Teenagers pulled out of prisons and given automatic weapons to man roadblocks is not nice.
