That sounds a mighty ambitious trip. I've heard the hike over from Nujiang to Mekong valley is pretty tough, I was thinking of doing it the...

About me
Did the big trip 20 odd years ago, China, Thailand, Nepal. Overland through India, Pakistan, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Israel, Egypt.
Went cycle touring through Ireland, Scotland and England, as well as through Europe and Eastern Europe just after the wall came down ( a fantastic time to be there). Have travelled extensively around Australia, including quite alot of 4WDing, and gone skiing in NZ. Have been on Safari in Tanzania, and gone backpacking in Vietnam. More recently I’ve been enjoying the underwater delights of Indonesia, and have fallen in love with that fascinating country with it’s myriad cultures and amazing biodiversity.
In Feb 2009 I completed a six and a half month trip through south east asia (Sumatra, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Yunnan in China, Laos and Cambodia), a mix of trekking, public transport and motorbike riding. I spent alot of time in more remote areas, often sleeping in local’s houses, and suffered culture shock when reunited with the main tourist trail. I discovered I have little use for western creature comforts, and even less time for the grumblings of other westerners when confronted by the inevitable delays and annoyances of budget travel.
My most recent foray was a month in Java, where I travelled by bus, train, treadly and motorbike, and often by foot, from West to East, couchsurfed and hospitality clubbed, and even stayed with total strangers I met along the way. Whoever said Javanese were unfriendly got that totally wrong!!
My next trip : who knows?

I think whoever said TLG is tough is not a regular trekker. 28 bends is a slow and steady climb, and the descent/ascent to the river from...
