I’m the site editor for lonelyplanet.com.

Before joining the online team, I was a travel-guide author and editor. I’ve worked on scores of books – covering every continent except Antarctica – and dreamed up countless ideas (both good and terrible!) for travellers.

I’ve lived in India, Pakistan, the USA (both coasts) and Indonesia, but I’m currently upside-down in Melbourne, Australia. I still hit the road whenever I can.

I’m recently back from an incredible trip to Western Australia – driving from Perth to Ningaloo Reef. One of the best wildlife trips I’ve ever taken.

With the recent arrival of a baby boy, my partner and I are planning our first ever “family” trip: to Hawaii. If we ever get any sleep again, that is!

I'm biased - i can't stand the way they look. But those who use 'em tend to love 'em....

Tosta con tomate sounds excellent! Have to try that tomorrow.

I fell in love with Turkish breakfasts. Such abundance and variety of flavors! I'd have skipped lunch if the Turkish lunches weren't so excellent as well. Turkey: not good for the waistline.

      Friday, September 4

      Hi everyone,

Wrapping up the first week of September. It's officially spring here in Australia, but in the north thoughts turn towards autumn. We've tried to feature some great insights from our community (such as how to carry a baby through the snow) as well as some topical pieces this week (eg Fiji's suspension from the Commonwealth and the best places to explore Big Sur in fall). We also snuck in an ice cream piece to catch the tail end of the warm season in Rome.

What would you like to see us cover coming up? Lots on the world of travel as we move into the latter quarter of the year.

      Caffrey's Irish Ale

Ok, so a bit off topic - but does anyone know what happened to Caffrey's? Used to be my favorite brew and is now available...nowhere, as far as i can tell. Did they go kaput? Should i just, y'know...Google it?

Wow - that is a massive call! You're picking Creedence over the Grateful Dead, Faith No More, Dead Kennedys, Santana and Jefferson Airplane/Starship? (Not to mention Huey Lewis and the News and Sammy Hagar. :) )

This is una idea maravillosa! I know a bunch of folks who have picked up some Hindi by listening to Bollywood soundtracks.

Have you heard the Gypsy Kings' version of "Hotel California"? If anything, more unlistenable than the original...but strangely compelling at the same time.

commented on Vegemite on toast. in Food in the morning

Vegemite is all right with a few conditions:
      * it must be spread molecule-thin
      * it must be accompanied by LOTS of butter
      * it must be taken with eight to twelve gallons of water

The problem is that many non-Australians smear it on their toast like peanut butter and then get the rude shock.

Impressive. I bet there are a lot of five-star high-flyers that could boast impressive metropolitan views, though. And there are some backpacker cafes in Agra that overlook the Taj Mahal (can't vouch for the quality of their pedestrian fare, though).

I hardly think of churros con chocolate (in Madrid) as breakfast - it's what you eat at 6am on the way home from the nightclub! :)

It's easy to just go with whatever context dictates, but you need to take a stand. If you were in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which would you pick?
