I’m the Head of Editorial for Lonely Planet Digital.
Before joining the online team, I was a travel-guide author and editor. I’ve worked on scores of books – covering every continent except Antarctica – and dreamed up countless ideas (both good and terrible!) for travellers.
I’ve lived in India, Pakistan, the USA (both coasts) and Indonesia, but I’m currently upside-down in Melbourne, Australia. I still hit the road whenever I can.
My last trip was my first “family” trip ever: to Hawaii. Travelling with an infant was certainly eye-opening.
The next trip I’m planning is to Northern Thailand, if I can squeeze it in.

I loved the moon rock at the Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC, when I was little. Was so great to be able to touch a piece of outer space!

Hey Robin - great to hear of some locals! If you're around Melbourne, let us know and pop by the office for a coffee.

Tosta con tomate sounds excellent! Have to try that tomorrow.
I fell in love with Turkish breakfasts. Such abundance and variety of flavors! I'd have skipped lunch if the Turkish lunches weren't so excellent as well. Turkey: not good for the waistline.

Friday, September 4
Hi everyone,
Wrapping up the first week of September. It's officially spring here in Australia, but in the north thoughts turn towards autumn. We've tried to feature some great insights from our community (such as how to carry a baby through the snow) as well as some topical pieces this week (eg Fiji's suspension from the Commonwealth and the best places to explore Big Sur in fall). We also snuck in an ice cream piece to catch the tail end of the warm season in Rome.
What would you like to see us cover coming up? Lots on the world of travel as we move into the latter quarter of the year.

Oh, and lou_wurm: describing an Irish beer as "British" might raise a few hackles! :)

Thanks for the tips! I obviously need to scour the Irish pubs and bottle shops in Australia.

You MUST be related to Fogerty. CCR is a favorite of mine, but even I have to admit that 80% of their songs sound identical.

Caffrey's Irish Ale
Ok, so a bit off topic - but does anyone know what happened to Caffrey's? Used to be my favorite brew and is now available...nowhere, as far as i can tell. Did they go kaput? Should i just, y'know...Google it?

Wow - that is a massive call! You're picking Creedence over the Grateful Dead, Faith No More, Dead Kennedys, Santana and Jefferson Airplane/Starship? (Not to mention Huey Lewis and the News and Sammy Hagar. :) )

This is una idea maravillosa! I know a bunch of folks who have picked up some Hindi by listening to Bollywood soundtracks.
Have you heard the Gypsy Kings' version of "Hotel California"? If anything, more unlistenable than the original...but strangely compelling at the same time.
