Late 50’s couple into travel when we have holidays, have lived in US and NZ as well as travelling extensively in Europe and India. Natives of and living in North East England. Plan to do much more travelling when retired( Leigh now semi-retired Melanie retires April 2010). Mostly hope to be independent with own vehicle( Toyota Landcruiser). First post retirement trip will be to Mali/Mauritania for a month or two. Done that one now – it was brilliant cant wait until we can go for a really long time. Cant get started on an overland to India and Pakistan. – a 5/6 months trip due to ‘aged parents’ so planning a 7/8 week trip to Turkey / Greece in May/June 2010. Also going to Mardi Gras in New Orleans plus a short tour of Cajun Country in Feb2010.Ticked off the Mardi Gras trip now, I thought the highlight were Bourbon St on Mardi Gras day and Fred’s Lounge Mamou on Saturday morning.

Getting geared up for Turkey in late April , will be away until late June.

Jan 2011 update , had great trip to Turkey earlier also 3 weeks in SW Frtance during grape harvest. In Aug we did 5 days hiking on the Cleveland Way – excellent. Plans for 2011 a few trips to Spain plus around UK along with the big one this year – SW USA for 5 weeks the planned highlight is to hike to the bottom of Grand Canyon( and back up again).

Dec 2011 update Our trip to SW USA was fabulous.we camped in some really out of the way places visited some previously visited places. We were able to take our time and see places in depth.We did manage to get reservations at Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the hike was the highlight for me.

Now planning Feb/March 2012 in Bangladesh and Nepal. We also have a new( to us) caravan for trips in UKand Europe.
