About me
46 yr old sun fried I LOVE to tour on my bike also Age Ranked triathelete, Marathoner, avid diver ex Beach Baller (Vollyball) Below is my accumulated advise from hundreds of self bike tours.. hope it helps some one. Nylon, Nylon and more nylon and then some cool max Plus all the new now cheaper running gear. NO TSHIRTS or Jeans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BLACK running shoes without swooshes or white lines —they can double as “dress” shoes" A 2nd pair of any sort of shoe is nuts. Coolmax and or nylon are light weight dry quickly and you put them on wear in layers. At least have 2 pairs of gloves one full fingered , one of a plastic material. multiple pairs of socks keep some thin plastic bags (Like newspaper wrappers). To put between layers in a storm. Don’t forget A plastic poncho . All the plastic and nylon can keep you dryer. If you need long pants “warm ups” are great BUT tape the right ankle down, so that it doesn’t catch the chain It’s your feet and fingers that get cold and make the rest of you miserable. I’m a believer in backpacks over panniers. Your body can control the weight easier then a you can get used to a new way your bike handles. I’ve traveled for a month with less then 15lbs in your pack much of it tubes, tires and tools. REMEMBER nylon washes easily and dries quicker. Most of the excess weight should be water bottles and tasty powders to provide taste , carbs and good sugars when neccessary – outside Western Europe N America AU and NZ NEVER use tap water. – Don’t forget 2 good combo locks. ONE NEEDS to be heavy duty (Kryptonite) Yeah it’s heavy but a bike trip is difficult without a bike! When locking the bike if the seatpost is quick release put it your backpack. Personally I never do COLD weather (mountains only in Summer) so others can advise for that. I am sure many have asked this in the
