I’m a 26-year-old dreamer, finally settled (happily) into a great job, but still nostalgic about my heady days of travelling, which now seem so depressingly long ago! I spent my gap year teaching English in a secondary state school in Guangdong Province, China, and exploring most of the country during the holidays. Whilst at university, I backpacked through northern India for a month with a friend. After graduation, I spent two months travelling solo in New Zealand, with a week in Fiji on the way home.
My next adventure was to involve western Europe, a severely restrained budget (having quit my job to “live the dream”), a “friend” with a penchant for living the high life, and a 1960s VW campervan. I reckoned that within the next three years, I’d either be recalling my escapades on Richard and Judy, begging to return to my old office job, or holed up in a Thai prison. As it happened, the friend backed out, the plans fell apart and I was left high and dry; jobless, abandoned and wondering what to do next. It inspired me to pursue my other long-held ambition of working in the film industry. I now do exactly that (and love it), serving to prove that everything happens for a reason; even if the reason takes a while to manifest itself!
In 2010 I visited my sixth continent, trekking the Lares Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru in aid of Action Medical Research. Only Antarctica to go now; I’m saving that up for my eventual retirement!
Like most travellers, I am an amateur photographer. Sometimes I take quite nice photos but it’s usually accidental.
I once ate a scorpion. I didn’t like it.
