If you like jogging, take a jog around town on your first morning to get your orientation and sneak a peak at some of the top tourist attractions before they get crowded.

Hungover on Sunday after the game? Go to the Varsity
So Robert mentions it in his blog and his ESPN article, but I just had to add an extra plug for The Varsity. It's an Atlanta tradition that I enjoyed growing up there - not sure if it's myth or truth but the guy who founded The Varsity was kicked out of Tech, so he vowed to make a fortune off of Tech. He's certainly done that and then some.
Eating at The Varsity is like no other experience I've found. From ordering confidently in the local lingo (PC = pure chocolate i.e. chocolate milk; FO = frosted orange drink; naked steak = plain hamburger), to the hats and the straws that are great for rolling up and popping (and the wrappers that you can put a drop of water on so they snake around). The Onion Rings are my absolute favorite in the world.
Just found a classic video of ordering at the Varsity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJD3_1k3rps
Go on Sunday with your hangover from Saturday night.
Go Dawgs. (there's also a Varsity in Athens)

commented on Any advice welcome - medium haul trip planning with kids in Long Haul Flying with Kids
Look for buddies on the flight - we made friends with another 2 year old on recent flight US to UK and they took turns playing at each others' seats so we had a little break!

Just flew US to UK on United and it was pretty terrible. They don't have bassinets - instead they have these little bags you put on the floor at your feet. Terrible idea generally and particularly if you also have a 2.5 year old running around. So we had to hold baby the whole way... we wont fly United again (although the staff were plenty nice).
We've had great experience with Qantas and BA a year or so ago.
My husband had an amazing experience on Virgin America - one of the flight attendants helped him get our sick 1 year old to sleep while he had a kip. Amazing! -

commented on Any recommendations for portable DVD players? in Long Haul Flying with Kids
We have a Sony DVD player that is our savior for flights and long trips. We have Elmo mainly, although recently our 2.5 year old is interested in Nemo etc. We've found that she really prefers to hold the DVD in her lap, although that means she often opens up the player and takes out the DVD... We originally wanted one to tie to car seat and struggled to find that. Good luck!
