commented on So I'm a bit nervous about traveling solo like most of you. Any good stories to put me at ease? in Going Solo
U should buy the book "World Stompers." by Brad Olsen. Great motivational read.

commented on travelling solo next year march-june to Vietnam, laos, cambodia, thailand, malaysia, indonesia, phillippines and HK. Any suggestions? in Going Solo
U may wanna check into the safety situation in PARTS of the Phillipines. Sounds like my list of countries for 2011. Will you do it overland or by flight connections? Would u mind sharing where u are at w/your preparations? How much are you preparing?

commented on did anyone travel to Italy solo? is it safe? can anyone share some experience with me? in Going Solo
OK. As in any country or city, u always wanna be careful. Europe is known for people snatching ur wallet if u r in the middle of big commotion. But that can happen to u anywhere. Italy is beautiful and one of my favorite destinations. I HIGHLY recommend Venice (who knows how long it'll last) and Lago di Garda!!! There are buses connecting country A to B. So, consider how close everything is out there. Ferries connect too. U may want to see more than just Italy. The more South you get, the less people might speak English. Generally though: The younger population speaks English.... I'm from Germany & have been in Italy a few times. I love it!! Tuscany is a very beautiful area! Oh, and of course: ROME!!

commented on hi all. does anyone know any trekking/camping/hiking groups for 20/30 somethings on a shoestring-ish budget, that travel to places like central/south america, asia or southern US?....by shoestring i mean, not 5,000 clams USD like i have seen in my searches. ;) a group specifically for the artistically inclined would be even better! in Going Solo
Check out backpacker.com and rei.com. I would just google what you are looking for. There's a tone of stuff out there..

commented on I went solo last year as a mission for myself! in Going Solo
What was your planning strategy? I've to admit I'm a planner too and seem to feel overwhelmed / don't really know how to start best.... Also, I'm very undecisive on the whole ticket thing. What's your opinion on RTW/ATW tickets compared to buying as u go. I just can't see why I'd want to set up an itinerary which needs to be kept when ultimate freedom is my goal... What's your take on this?
That's all for now. I haven't figured out yet how to send Emails via LP cuz I'd love to chat some more w/u ...over 2 years ago -

I've not really done any long-term solo travel. I've travelled from A to B alone, but mostly to meet friends there.. I've been all over Europe & have seen quite some stuff in the US. How long did you go and what countries did you see? I'll start in The Gambia where I'll help a friend w/a Peace Corp project. Then: Marocco, Egypt, (maybe: Lybia, Israel, Jordan), India, Nepal (more volunteering), (maybe: Bangladesh), China, Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia.. New Zealand. I know it's a long list & it might be longer in the end, but I'm planning on taking about a year or so.
