About me

I’m part of a Canadian family that relocated to Costa Rica from British Columbia over 15 years ago. Though we love our beautiful homeland, we were seeking a more active, tranquil lifestyle and warmer climate. After much research and a lot of traveling, we settled on Costa Rica’s North Pacific Coast. Why?

(1) Peaceful political climate – Costa Rica has enjoyed a stable democracy for over 100 years. There is no military. Instead, funds are channeled into universal healthcare and education. Costa Rica has the largest middle-class in Central America, and a literacy rate of over 95% (higher than the USA!)

(2) Quality of LIfe – Costa Rica offers a fabulous active lifestyle, due to its amazing climate, extensive system of national parks, world-famous biodiversity, and miles of pristine beaches. The water is potable. The food is fresh and local. Costa Rica was ranked the Happiest Country on Earth by The New Economics Foundation, an independent British research group that weighs life expectancy and satisfaction against environmental impact.

(3) Great weather – Our region of Costa Rica, the Nicoya Peninsula (Tamarindo/Flamingo area), is the driest in the country. We get over 300 days of sunshine each year. Coming from Vancouver – this equals paradise for us!

(4) Foreigner-friendly real estate laws – Foreigners can own Costa Rica Property in their own names, so we didn’t need to find local partners to purchase property. Costa Rica has a computerized system for registering property titles. Property taxes are low – .25%

(5) Environmental Cleanliness – We love the outdoors, and Costa Rica is very eco-conscious. The country is working to become carbon neutral by 2021, and has instituted strong laws to avoid the deforestation that devastates other Latin American countries.
