Hi all,...

commented on I have to say I've always been enticed with traveling, but was always inhibited by the idea of going solo. Being older, I've realized it's more important to seize any opportunities that come your way....and no reason to have a buddy to go along with you. I'm excited to say, I plan on going to Thailand for the first time, by myself, for my 30th birthday this year! in Going Solo
Journal as much as possible, even if you're not a writer. Being able to re-experience (of sorts) your travels in your words is a godsend on those longing days thereafter. Enjoy!

Hey Rob. Any itinerary of likely destinations? Best wishes.

Hey gang,
I initially joined this group because of the opportunity to share thoughts with likeminded people. Those that celebrate the endless opportunities that can only come when traveling alone. The people we are able to enter into conversations with or places we stumble upon when getting lost. All the wonderful things that might never happen with the security/company of a travel mate.
The more posts I read, the more it seems like this group should be called Looking for a Travel Partner (therefore not going solo). I'm interested to hear peoples thoughts or motivations for joining. Please know, this is in no way an indictment on any one persons approach. We are all travelers and that's good enough for me. Just curious.
Happiest of trails!

Wishful74 - we can find some of the most inspiring things in depressed cities in africa. As long as our hearts and minds are open to it.

Agreed with wishful74, depends on priorities. Me though, I never keep with me the sites that I see or the ground that I cover nearly as much as the stationary times when I'm able to connect with people.

6 weeks in Ghana. Makes 2 week trip now seem like the blink of an eye.

Good stuff VDG, but gotta say you forgot about the 4th thing people might find redeeming about Kampala...the nightlife. So much fun!...
