commented on I'm planning to travel to India from September this year until the end of February next year. I plan to go to Dharamsala, Manala and Ladakh, then to Agra, Varanasi, Bodhgaya, and Darjeeling, possibly doing a one week trek from Yuksom to Goecha La. Then I will be volunteering in Delhi for all of November and December, and during this time I will visit Agra, and Jaiper. I plan to head south during January: Pushkar, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Bhopal, Indore, Ajanta, Mumbai, Goa, Hampi and Bangalore. Then I will be volunteering for the second half of January and the first half of February near Mysore, during which I hope to see Kerala (doing an overnight houseboat trip), Periyar Wildlife Snactuary, and Pudacherry. Then I will be going to Chennai and then over to the Andaman Islands, then to Kolkata, Similipal National Park and then lastly to Nepal to hopefully catch the Holi festival (does anyone know when it is on next year?). in India
I had a very big plan like yours when I went to India, but it was shattered in the first two weeks... It's not a bad thing though. India, the people you meet (especially because you're travelling alone) and local events will direct your trip, rather than your plan. Constantly travelling in India is very tiring and I found myself staying in cities for quite a while when I found one I liked, it was my favourite part of the trip because I got to build this temporary life for myself with friends etc. It also gives you a chance to learn more about the culture and really hang out with locals.
I just posted a few tips on travelling alone to India in another thread - http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?messageID=16843031#16843031
Good luck on your adventure. India is an incredible place.

Thanks so much for that, I should have used forums before India. Kep looks beautiful. I tried riding a moped in Goa and failed miserably.
