About me

Born and bred in England, my family then moved to Scotland when I was 11. I was then placed in a school called ‘Rannoch’ out in the Stix of Scotalnd on Rannoch moor. I loved school, not least for the opportunities for outdoor activity and travel the school presented. Besides a conference in California, an exchange in Germany, and the odd ski trip, I was lucky enough to be chosen to go on a schools project to Ladakh, which was simply a phenomenal experience…..this gave me the bug.

Following school a gap year took me to Sri Lanka to teach and work with Elephants, also a truly amazing experience, and perhaps an easier going one than Ladakh. I didn’t know it then but it seems everything would seem tame after my stint in the Himalayas, it had prepared me for everything.

Whilst gaining a degree in primary teaching in Edinburgh I made the most of the long university holidays and was lucky enough to lead a team of students to South Africa. We were able to provide a ‘school for children with needs’ a sensory ‘play room/library’.

A year later, I traveled back to South Africa alone, where I was entrusted to act as a correspondent between a UK money donor and a small Farm school in Zulu land. The doner/funder in question had raised several thousand pounds by means of a sponsored walk around Cuba. Unable to ravel to South Africa with the funds herself, I was asked to go and live in the region of the school and assist and work with the school whilst the funds where dispersed. The funder was happy to learn exactly how her donation was used.

Since leaving Uni I have moved to Slovenia, where I know live with my Slovenian partner. I own and run a self catering chalet in the beautiful Soca Valley, and I love every minute in this fantastic place. The Website is www.casarosaslovenia.com
