About me

Family of backpackers, my partner Alan, myself and our 2 boys. We have spent about 4 weeks in Cuba (1998)Thailand and Burma (1999 and 2000), Malaysia (2000), S.India (2002), Dubai(2002) Egypt and Israel (2005), Costa Rica (2006), 5 Canary Islands and most of Europe (a few times every year). Our most hairy experience was surviving the Tsunami which destroyed the ground floor of our hotel in Sri Lanka in 2004. We just sat in the beach bar watching the fisherman tie down their boats and waiting for it to happen. Our next worldwide destination will probably be Namibia(2007) but we haven’t decided yet. We like to travel cheaply although cleanly. Occasionally we have a splurge and stay in really good hotels for a couple of nights. We travel lightly, usually 1 rucksack (40 litres) each. We nearly always use public transport. If you’ve been to Asia you’ll know that the train IS the holiday We live in London, although this site insists on the Isle of Man (funny that’s one place haven’t been, better try it out) My partner and I were both born in Scotland and our sons are in a pipe and drum band. Our eldest (now 16) plays bagpipes and our youngest (now 14) leads the band, he is the drum major. We try to give honest opinions and practical facts in our posts, but we realise that everyone is different and has a right to their own point of view. Favourite countries: 1) London 2)Costa Rica (except Puerto Viejo) 3) Sri Lanka or check our
